Bersatunews. Meta telah mulai memblokir akses ke konten berita untuk pengguna platform media sosial Kanada Facebook dan Instagram.
Langkah tersebut menyusul disetujuinya Undang-Undang Berita Online yang dikabarkan mulai berlaku akhir tahun ini. April lalu mewajibkan platform seperti Google dan Facebook untuk membuat kesepakatan bisnis dengan informasi dan media sosial dan membayar penerbit berita untuk konten mereka.
Kami telah transparan tentang kekhawatiran kami selama beberapa bulan. Seperti dikutip dari Fortune Direktur Kebijakan Publik Kanada Meta Rachel Curran mengatakan: Hal ini mengarah pada premis yang salah bahwa Meta mengeksploitasi konten berita yang dibagikan di platform kami.

Sejalan dengan rencana Meta untuk memblokir akses ke berita di Kanada Meta akan menangguhkan sementara langganan iklan ke platform media sosial milik Mark Zuckerberg. Kami berharap lebih banyak pejabat di pemerintah Kanada dan perusahaan pengiklan akan menanggapi tindakan sepihak memutuskan hubungan dengan warga Kanada ini kata kepala eksekutif Canadian News Media CEO Paul Deegan dalam sebuah pernyataan.
